Wilhelm Heinrich and Anna Margarite (Heinlein) MADER, my gr-gr-grandparents

A mature woman; Actual size=180 pixels wide

Both born in Germany, Pfullingen and Litseldorf. They immigrated to Chillicothe, Ohio; where they married in 1853; and lived their lives. To this union 8 children were born; Elizabeth, Barbara, William, CHARLES FREDERICK (my gr grandfather who married Mary Florence Gartner), John, Jacob, and Frederick. Anna immigrated with her parents in 1850 when she was 15 years old; William Henry (as he Americanized his name to) traveled alone to this country in 1852 at the age of 22.

Adam and Melissa (Hankle) GARTNER, my gr-gr grandparents

Adam and Melissa (Hankle) GARTNER, also from Germany; Darmstadt. They immigrated to Hopetown, Ohio also Ross County. Still much to learn about this part of the family. They also had 8 children: John, George, Catherine, Emaline, MARY FLORENCE (my gr grandmother), Louis, Lotta, and Ida. He was a blacksmith, owned horses, was perhaps a Mennonite, and his stone is in German.

Mary Florence Gartner MADER, my gr-grandmother.

Mary Florence, my gr-grandmother was a women before her time. She loved to race horses, and apparently was quite a "free spirit". The daughter of German immigrants, Melissa Hankle and Adam Gartner, raised in Hopetown, Ohio. Her father was a blacksmith. She was the mother of 4, and lived a long life, dying in 1956 at the age of 95.

Charles Frederick MADER, my gr-grandfater

A mature couple; Actual size=240 pixels wide

Charles Frederick born in 1860. A man of many talents. He was a professional musician, played in several bands, and directed others. He gave music lessons to Warren G. Harding, (before he became President, of course!), gave piano lessons, was a grocier; and the father of 4.
